IIASA's Air Quality and Greenhouse Gases (AIR) Program is looking to recruit a motivated and talented researcher to work within a team analyzing the multiple benefits of environmental policy interventions.
The successful applicant will develop methodologies to translate scientific findings on the health effects of a wide range of environmental risks into practical methods to explore the effectiveness of sector policies on measurable health improvements, considering social determinants of health.
The purpose of the research is to inform policy efforts by providing country and city-specific assessments. 
Required Skills:
  • Knowledge of contemporary methods for health impact assessments of air pollution and other environmental risks
  • Familiarity with ‘Global Burden of Disease’ studies and the UN Sustainable Development Goals
  • Proficiency in the management of large data sets, statistical analysis and software
  • Excellent interpersonal, networking and communication skills
  • Ability to manage many tasks concurrently and prioritize workload, in a pressured environment with competing demands and high expectations
  • Self-manager, including the ability to demonstrate initiative and work independently
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment
  • Ability to write in a clear and concise manner and to present factual, data-driven information.
Required Experience:
Candidates should have (or be close to completing) a Doctoral degree related to health impact assessment. Proficiency with programming and/or statistical software such as R, Python or SAS is highly desired.
Applicants must be prepared to process and manage large datasets, become proficient with a complex system model, and analyze results. In addition, applicants must be prepared to develop new modeling approaches and think critically and independently about her/his research.
